History
1912 - Nabisco, produce a biscuit consisting of two chocolate disks with a crème filling in between.
1913 - The official name was OREO Biscuit. It is believed that OREO is a Greek word which means "mound". Others on the other hand say that OREO is derived from the French word for gold "or" after the gold wrapping in which the first OREOs were encased. Even experts at Kraft aren't absolutely sure.
1920 - Lemon OREO introduced
1921 - The name was yet again changed to OREO Sandwich,
1948 - The product was renamed to OREO Cream Sandwich
1975 – Double Stuff OREO was introduced, and the name was changed to OREO Chocolate Sandwich Cookies.
1987 - Fudge covered OREO introduced
1991 - Halloween OREO introduced
1995 - Christmas OREO introduced
2000 - Nabisco merged with Kraft Foods
2012 – 100 year anniversary of the launch
